Understanding "Grey Market", "Direct Import", and "Imported" Products
At Willoughby's Photo Emporium, we offer both USA-warranted and imported (grey market) products. The terms "grey market", "direct import", and "imported" all refer to the same category: products sourced from outside the manufacturer's official U.S. distribution channels.
What Is a Grey Market Product?
A grey market item is a brand-new, authentic product manufactured by the original brand. These are not knock-offs, factory seconds, or demo units.
The main differences are:
Warranty Coverage: Grey market items are not covered by the U.S. manufacturer's warranty.
Price: Grey market products are often more affordable than their USA-warranted equivalents.
Warranty & Service
USA-Warranted Products: Covered by the manufacturer's official U.S. warranty. Service is available at authorized service centers nationwide and in some cases, globally.
Grey Market Products: Willoughby's provides a store-backed warranty that mirrors the manufacturer's terms, but is limited to one year or the manufacturer's term, whichever is shorter. Warranty service must be handled directly through us.
Why Offer Grey Market Products?
To provide lower-cost alternatives to USA-warranted models
To offer products not available through official U.S. distribution
To give customers more choice in features, formats, and pricing
